Bjarni Bequette, executive chef of Iceland’s Fosshotel chain, brings a taste of Iceland to Chez Zee American Bistro this weekend. It’s a great chance for curious Austinites to learn about Icelandic cuisine as well as travel opportunities to the exotic eco-tourism destination.
In her frequent travels to Iceland, Chez Zee owner Sharon Watkins fell in love with its flavors, culture, and sophisticated hospitality. As a result, she’s invited chef Bequette to present three days of Icelandic menu specials at Chez Zee and a tourism expert to discuss travel opportunities with guests during a complimentary reception.
Chef Bequette’s menu will include appetizers with scallops and langoustines or plokkfisk croquettes, entrees of Icelandic lamb or citrus-cured salmon, and a blueberry tart dessert filled with skyr (a yogurt-like cultured dairy product) mousse. Reservations are strongly suggested for this singular dining experience. Call the restaurant now to secure a spot.
Before chef BJ works his magic, Watkins will welcome guests to a reception at 5:30pm today, Thursday, Feb. 26., in the Chez Zee Gallery. Runa Bergmann, an eco-tourism expert who is partner and CEO of Iceland Trips 4 You, will share her knowledge of the country, and small bites and drinks will be served.
