Erica Beneke is no stranger to cooking competitions. She won the local round of Chefs Under Fire 2010 and was a fan favorite in the statewide finals. But did that experience and her years of turning out “gourmet comfort food” at Max’s Wine Dive prepare her to win $10,000 on Chopped? Find out Sunday.
Beneke is the third woman and the fourth Austin chef overall to compete on the popular Food Network show this spring. Auditions were held here in 2012 and the producers were obviously impressed with the talents of the women chefs they discovered. Chopped viewing parties have become all the rage around Austin!Beneke told us this week that competing on Chopped was “an incredible experience to be part of. I had a great time.” She’s bound by contract not to reveal how things came out, but her employers at Max’s Wine Dive are excited enough about her appearance that they are hosting viewing parties on Sunday evening at all their locations around the state; Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
The party at Max’s Austin outlet begins on Sunday, June 2 a little before the show’s 7:00pm CST air time. Chef Beneke will mingle with the crowd during the show and guests will be treated to a complementary sample of her appetizer round creation. The show will be screened on televisions around the dining room and regular dinner service will be available. There is no admission fee, but it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and make those dinner reservations now.
