Friends of beloved Cafe Mundi founder Jessica Nieri are throwing her a birthday benefit bash to raise money for her next round of holistic and alternative cancer treatments not covered by insurance.

Austinites know Nieri as the founder of Cafe Mundi, a charming little cafe/coffee shop/art space/ and community meeting venue she opened in 1998. Nieri was a genuine pioneer in the East Sixth Street neighborhood long before it became a hipster discovery. She lost her lease on the cafe in 2010 and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. After a mastectomy and a round of chemotherapy, she’s now pursuing holistic approaches to maintain her cancer-free status.

Nieri is happy to have a birthday to celebrate and is looking forward to continued recovery. “My treatments are all holistic and alternative medicine that insurance won’t pay for. It’s all so interesting. I’m learning so much about how we view the holistic approach, insurance, organics, stress, and really the simplicity of just being positive,” Nieri told us

Party Invitation

The party is Sunday, April 28 from 3-9pm at Rain Lily Farm (914 Shady Lane). They’ve lined up great live entertainment, a fabulous silent auction of local jewelery and crafts, plus food from Wink, Rain Lily, VIVO, Dai Due, East Side Pies, and more. So bring a donation and a blanket and come enjoy a beautiful spring day on an urban farm
