There are some major upgrades under way at Uncle Billy’s Brewery & Smokehouse. Since 2007, the Barton Springs Road brewpub has been brewing craft beer and slinging barbecue. You know what they say about seven years …

Not content with its current output, the brewpub will be more than doubling its brewing system, effectively tripling the amount of beer it can produce to approximately 5,000 barrels. Led by brewery experts Hans Johnson and Brad Mortensen, the expansion also includes a new indoor/outdoor island bar and an updated menu featuring a variety of smoked seafood options as well as food and beer pairings.

When the expansion project is completed, the duo’s search for a new head brewer – a coveted position – will certainly inspire a frenzy. I’d love to see who makes that short list.
