Named after the owner’s son, who died in 1992, Big Earl’s is a low-key neighborhood joint located in Northeast Austin. Customers order from the window and are then served in a sparsely decorated dining room, the centerpiece of which is a television. Menu items include Salisbury steak, meatloaf, pork chops, chicken and dumplings, baked chicken, and fried catfish. Each plate is served with two vegetables and cornbread.
