Carol Ann Sayle and Larry Butler, current stewards of Austin’s 172-year-old historic treasure, Boggy Creek Farm, will be the featured speakers at the Neill-Cochran House Museum’s observance of Austin Museum Day.
Though the connections between Boggy Creek Farm and the Neill-Cochran house may not be readily apparent, we know that the farm’s original owners, James and Elizabeth Smith, were friends of Abner Cook and that master builder Cook is responsible for building the Neill-Cochran house as well as the governor’s mansion. Also, September 25 marks the anniversary of Sayle and Butler’s 1992 purchase of the original farmhouse and remaining 5 acres of the farm founded by the Smiths during the Republic of Texas era. Drop by the Neill-Chochran House Museum (2310 San Gabriel) on Sunday, Sept. 25 between 10am-5pm and visit with the farmers, enjoy a slide show of photos of the historic farm property, and learn something about Austin’s rich agricultural history.
