In their latest release, Michel Poiccard, The Death Set have fused their brand of punk rock, electronic music production and hip hop sampling into their recordings and the results are ear-opening.
After relocating from Australia to the East Coast, the Death Set is getting some well deserved attention this year. Their songs touch on subjects ranging from handshakes to hell-bent ecstasy binges and they have been described as being a “full-tilt, power pop catharsis” by the BBC.
They draw a lot of comparisons to the Beastie Boys, and rightly so, thanks to Johnny Siera’s shrilling Ad-Rock-esque raps, backbreaking beats and their vibrant, tongue in cheek music videos. However, The Death Set are their own loud, lewd, crowd killing entity and they are beginning to make a reputation for being one of the rowdiest live shows on the market today. The Death Set will be releasing an EP on Steve Aoki’s label “Dim Mak” and this will be the sixth year they play at SXSW. Do yourself a favor and be at either the Scion/Dim Mak showcase on 418 E 6th in the early evening or at Lamberts late night on March 13th for the Bond Music Group showcase, you won’t be disappointed.
