Dirt Candy is the award-winning vegetarian restaurant up there in (the currently waterlogged & devastated) NYC, run by a fierce woman named Amanda Cohen who’s in Austin on Sunday to present a wine-complemented Dirt Candy Feast to accompany the screening of Stephen Chow‘s classic God of Cookery at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.
What, you’ve never seen God of Cookery, the hilarious movie that does for culinary aspirations what Chow’s later Kung Fu Hustle did for martial arts?
What, you’ve never eaten Hush Puppies with Maple Butter or Smoked Cauliflower & Waffles as prepared by Amanda Cohen and the Alamo’s John Bullington?
What, you’ve never seen a cookbook that’s also a graphic novel – the Dirt Candy Cookbook by that same Cohen and artist Ryan Dunlavey and journalist Grady Hendrix?
Well, now you can take care of all three of those Painfully Egregious Oversights, dear reader ~ because this Sunday night is your proverbial huckleberry.
(Of course, I’ll have a full report on the event for you next week – as well as a review of the cookbook and a short interview with the innovative chef – but you don’t want me to experience all the tasty chow and funny Chow while you sit home doing something that’s probably a lot less fun, do you? You’d rather be at the Alamo, finishing Cohen’s Popcorn Pudding dessert with a final swallow of Chaucer’s mead, wouldn’t you?)
