I’m not ashamed to say it, when I hear the word “free” my eyes twinkle and I can’t help but smile sheepishly. You can imagine how excited I was to kick off my first free week experience last weekend.
I started off at Hotel Vegas on Friday to see The Sweet Spirits. The place was packed more than I’d ever seen it; you could barely make it to the bar. It was hard to believe that The Sweet Spirits had just formed a few days earlier because their sound was so tight and their dynamics flowed like they had been jamming for years. Lead singer Sabrina charmed the crowd with her quirky sass as the crowd danced, swayed, and cheered.
The next night I went to Red 7 to check out Doom Siren and Pack of Wolves. Two stages, a merch area, a bar outside, as well as an awesome inside bar! Nice night for some metal, good crowd, not too cold, and who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashion mosh pit every now and then?! Sunday night I ventured to Red 7 yet again where the Sweet Spirits were playing another show as well as Grape St., two awesome bands for the price of none! Wednesday night I’m hoping to catch Roxy Roca, Latasha Lee and the Black Ties, as well as The Shears and KP and the Boom Boom at Spider House Ballroom!
If it’s free, it’s for me. Don’t mind if I do and the same goes for all you other Austinites! Get out and see some live music at one of the countless venues. Get acquainted with some new music and who knows, you might just hear your new favorite song.
