This evening theres one place Im sure to be; Fun Fun Fun Festival Orange Stage. This years festival will be showcasing indie buzz bands from all corners of the blogosphere. M83, Girls, and Lykke Li in particular will have my undivided attention among the droves of festivalgoers and bands.
M83s single Midnight City has been out since July and has created much anticipation for the release of their studio album Hurry Up, Were Dreaming. Recently, while waiting at the Alamo Draft House for a movie to began I found myself suddenly rocking out to Midnight City as it was played over upcoming movie events the Alamo was hosting. I felt a reassuring vibe after the promo concluded; my beloved local movie house shares with me the same savvy musical sensibilities. Im looking forward to Girls performance of Honey Bunny from their new album Father Son Holy Ghost. To me the song bears candor lyricism, is reminiscent of surfer rock, and creates a dreamy mellowness with its slide guitar at minute 1:27. Lykke Li is the perfect dollop of cream to this indie musical cupcake. Her album Wounded Rhymes has been everywhere from a Victorias Secret commercial using the single Get Some (lyrics being omitted, thats a shame) to Tyler the Creator from Odd Future remixing I Follow Rivers. Auditorium Shores this Saturday will definitely be the place to be so bring your will to be weird and plan on having a festive night.
