Things are heating up at the East Side Glass Studio.
In fact, they’re 2100 degrees hot:
That’s the temperature of the glass furnace
at this recently opened public-access venue.
Every Saturday in December until Christmas, the studio is offering classes so you can learn how to blow your own glass Christmas ornament.
And if your little one wants to help, that’s OK.
Owners Leigh Taylor Wyatt and Shara Funari say they’ve taught the art of glass blowing to students as young as 5 years old.
The cost is $40, which includes materials. First come first served. Classes will be offered on Saturdays:
December 3, 2-5pm
December 10 and 17, 10am-2pm
Note: The studio will be offering more classes in 2012. East Side Glass Studio (which shares a building with the recently opened Hops and Grain brewery) is sure to be a hot destination. The two have just held their first “Hot Glass, Cold Beer” event (sample beer, watch people making glass). The building’s going through an extensive makeover with a gallery and restaurant to come.
The studio is at 507 Calles — just take East Sixth Street going east until it dead ends.
