In Austin, we celebrate just about anything. We celebrate film, music and interactive. Eeyores birthday. Kites. Hot Sauce. Margaritas. We even hang out just so we can celebrate exactly how weird our city is. This month, Austinites are being called upon to celebrate something else: diversity.
On August 23rd, you can support Austin Anti-Defamation Leagues noble mission to fight bias, bigotry, discrimination and all forms of hate by showing your true colors and seeing with your heart at their Third Annual True Colors Fundraiser.
As the nation’s premier civil rights/human relations agency, ADL fights all forms of discrimination and hate, defends democratic ideals by monitoring extremists and domestic terrorists and partners with their regional communities in order to encourage equality for all. Benchmark ADL programs include No Place for Hate®, which fights bullying and cyber-bulling in schools K-12, and Community of Respect®, which partners with colleges, businesses, organizations and faith institutions to promote respect and equality.
True to Austin form, the event will not go down without a plethora of entertainment and treats, and an adequate amount of Austin-flare. La Condesa, Home Slice Pizza and Uncle Billys will all be serving up bites for guests. Wahaka Mezcal will be providing the adult beverages, while Tameca Jones, Nano Whitman and Snapping Chowsky take the stage for live music. Attendees will also enjoy artwork on display, screen print T-shirts available for a donation and a silent auction, including items from local jewelers, spas, retailers and private chefs.
The event will begin at 7:00pm at Austins new state-of-the-art yoga studio and live music venue, Wanderlust LIVE, located in the historic Railyard district in the heart of downtown. Only open since April of this year, you can be one of the first to experience a party at this extraordinary venue.
Early-bird priced tickets ($75, $100 at the door) are available now at www.adl.org/truecolors. Funds generated from this event will help to continue the free educational resources we provide for teachers, students and parents.
