CHILDREN’S DAY ART PARK Symphony Square is ablaze with music, dance, arts & crafts, and storytelling during this perennial summer activity. Kids get up close and personal with symphony musicians and their instruments through the “instrumental petting zoo” and can create masterpieces at the Art Tent. MUSIC FEST 2001 is a summer camp offered by the Center for Music Therapy. Sometimes even kids can get a little stressed out, and this camp’ll help them chill with the healing power of music — through instrument-playing, dancing, singing, and drama. ROCK AND ROLL JAZZ CAMP If you want Austin to continue its reign as Live Music Capital of the World for many generations to come, do your part by sending your kid to the Austin School of Music. Their two-week, performance-oriented camp culminates with a concert at Antone’s. A demo and video of the performance is included. NATURAL EAR MUSIC CAMP teaches your kid how to rock out like a true rock star. With a staff of experienced musicians, Natural Ear helps your kids to play the instrument of their choice. Kids are paired up in groups of six depending on their levels of experience and musical preferences. At the end of the three-week course, each band gets to play a real gig. Ages: 8-18. KINDERMUSIK ADVENTURES CAMP The people at Capital Music must’ve known that to turn your infant into the next Chopin, musical education should probably begin early. That’s why they’ve added this program to their current repertoire of music lessons. Children participate in a once-a-week camp that focuses on the aural diversity of our world, from the noises animals make to sounds of the Far East. Kindermusik hopes to foster creativity and music appreciation in these youngsters by incorporating art, movement, dance, and drama along with the music. Ages: infancy to 6. Camps begin June 11.
