Artist Talk With Bernie Diaz & Katie Conley

What’s cool about collage is how an artist can repurpose things and give them new life and meaning simply by placing them next to other things. So many small choices make up the whole: type of material, size, shape, color; what to include and what to leave out. At this talk, learn more about the process, inspiration, and techniques of two local creatives whose work requires this type of consideration: queer Mexican American artist and ACC assistant prof Bernie Diaz, and Katie Conley, whose postage stamp collage exhibit, “Parts to Whole,” is on view now at DAC. – Kat McNevins

      Intro to 3D Printing

Did you know the Austin Public Library had a Digital Makerspace? Well, it does, and they want to help anyone try out this recent technological advancement with a two-hour, hands-on course. Learn the basics of how 3D printers and the software behind their creations work before playing around in Tinkercad to help draw up something printable. Leave those designs with your instructor and within a few weeks you can pick up the physical manifestation of your idea. Maybe not quite Frankenstein-levels of creation power, but we’re getting there. – James Renovitch

      Bike Month

I’ll admit it: I don’t believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein, or Superman. All I wanna do is bicycle! Bike Month ATX promises two-wheeler fun for the whole month of May. Break out the 10-speed, the recumbent, the cruiser, and join your fellow cyclists in the last nice weather days in Austin. There’s bike polo on May 5, or an all-level ride around Walnut Creek on the 19th. Help with meal delivery on the 22nd or pedal under a full moon on the 24th. Find pretty much every kind of bike fun under the sun (and moon!) at bikemonthatx.com, because those bicycle races? They’re coming your way. – James Scott
