"I'm moving to Austin for an adventure," John Doe told the Chronicle in 2017. Having become a fixture on the local scene, the punk pioneer serves up a three-show run of virtual sets from local institutions C-Boy's, Arlyn Studios, and the Cactus Cafe. The first indulges in "fan favorites," digging into his legendary work with L.A. icons X and cowpunks the Knitters, while the second works up new material from an upcoming album and likely X's Alphabetland, the quartet's April LP and first studio album in almost 30 years.

Renee Lai's new work focuses on the picket fence, a structure she associates with the traditional suburban American home, and explores what gets included and what gets excluded in the vision of American society.

Inside the front window of ICOSA, Kate Csillagi and Brooke Gassiot create scapes using video, mixed media, and shadow play. Note: The exhibition is viewable through the glass only to ensure everyone can safely peer inside at any hour of the day. "Please wear your mask and come check it out."

This community altarpiece and show by Kill Joy, whose work is an interpretation of world mythology and a study of ancient symbols, is presented in conjunction with Print Austin.

This is a group show by relay, begun in July of 2020 as a method of socially distancing a community in the height of the pandemic: Artists took turns alone in the space, each adding to the exhibition. Now, as it nears its close, the exhibition resembles a community in which work converses and overlaps. This, Orna Feinstein’s fourth solo show with the acclaimed gallery, is a meticulously curated exhibit that presents new works from the artist's concrete-based Dendro Beton sculptural series alongside never-before-seen works from her Branch and Rooted series of monoprints on paper.

Inspired by the Mexican American Cultural Center's annual La Mujer celebration – and by the first feminist of the New World, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz – this online group exhibit is curated by April Garcia and features womxn-identifying and nongender-specific artists whose artwork is tied to activism, feminism, cultural. and gender identity storytelling, environmental protection, and socioeconomic parity.

This latest installation by Colin McIntyre balances subtle extremes of light and sound, featuring a constructed setting that's a rhomboid chamber of red on red. Into this incarnadine vault the sculptor has engineered neon light and sound that plays through cymatic devices to oscillate fluids at the frequency of a specific tone. Note: This is an in-person event inside the gallery, for one to two people at a time, with a strict face mask and social distancing policy.

Six hand-painted soundstage backdrops are on exhibit alongside artwork from the Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts. The backdrops, on loan from Texas Performing Arts at UT-Austin, were created for MGM’s 1968 papal drama, The Shoes of the Fisherman, starring Anthony Quinn. These six replicas of Renaissance masterpieces in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel were nearly discarded before being rescued in 2017.

There, across 14 front yards on Bellvue Avenue: A sign of hope! Signs of hope, actually – the pro-Biden/Harris (or, as the artist puts it, Joe/Kamala) artworks of Austin's David Hefner. It's an excellent opportunity for a lift-up-your-spirits drive-by or walking tour: good stuff, visually, even beyond its message. Also a good excuse – go ahead, do it – to check out that Hefner's website, peruse some of the other works he's done.
