    Celebration of Austin-Oita Sister City Committee

    Oita, Japan, has been one of Austin's sister cities since 1990, and for this special 30th anniversary, the Austin-Oita Sister City Committee invites the greater Austin community to join in celebrating with 30 days of Facebook programming.     Crux Climbing Center Online Classes

    Austin’s local climbing gym and fitness center is now offering online classes including training for climbing, yoga, HIIT, and circuit training to keep Austinites mentally and physically healthy. Classes are free and open to the public, with Venmo tips encouraged for trainers.     DC Law Virtual Donation Drive for AGE of Central Texas

    Local nonprofit AGE of Central Texas helps older adults and their caregivers thrive, and is now in need of adult pull-ups and wipes. Austin-based law firm DC Law is supplying $1,000 worth of products, and has put together a drive to gather more of these supplies.     Don't Mess With Texas Art Contest

    The Don't Mess With Texas® Art Contest is officially open! Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation invite Texas students in kindergarten through 12th grade to submit their best litter prevention-inspired artwork to be considered for the Don’t Mess With Texas calendar, with the top 14 designs featured. Each winner will also receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 tablet, a Buc-ee's gift basket, their artwork framed and returned, and the opportunity to share the work on websites and social media. Teachers representing student winners will receive a $100 H-E-B/Central Market gift card. Submissions must be postmarked by April 24.

    HC4A/Shalom Austin School Supplies Fundraiser

    HC4A and Shalom Austin had set a date of April 19 for their eighth annual event raising funds for school supplies for Austin-area homeless children, which last year supported over 1,300 children. The April event is now canceled due to coronavirus, but you can still help reach the fundraising goal of $34,000 to support 1,600 students. A small donation of $25 will help support one child. On Aug. 19, volunteers plan to gather to assemble the school supplies at Dell Jewish Community Center. Donate online at HC4A.org.

    City of Austin's Safe Routes to School program invites seventh and eighth grade students to create their very own public service announcement (a short educational video) showing how to walk, bike, and roll to school safely.     Million Mile Month is a virtual challenge to complete one million miles of physical activity, together as one global community. All registration levels include the Million Mile Month Challenge, printable race bib, leaderboards, an account on HealthCode’s activity platform, and activity entry tools, and a T-shirt is included at the Gold/Platinum levels. Proceeds from your registration enable schoolchildren and low-income families to participate for free; there is no required fee.
