Spring Break at the Bullock
A whole week without school? What is a curious and unoccupied mind to do? Get those kiddos down to the Bullock Texas State History Museum to stave off boredom and give them something to chat about when school’s back in session the next Monday. Each day’s unique spring break activity is included with museum admission and coincides with the current shark exhibit, meaning kids will learn fun facts about the ocean through interactive activities and get up close and personal with some very cool shark stuff such as megalodon teeth. – Kat McNevinsMondays-Sundays. Women & People Who Love Women’s Night
It’ll be a fem-for-all type of get-together at South Austin lit lounge Reverie Books, as they’re throwing a party to celebrate ladies and lady lovers. Pick a piece by certified fresh female authors like Julia Serano, Martha S. Jones, and Sara Ahmed from Reverie’s packed shelves while enjoying a free mimosa. They’ll also have their outdoor area kitted out, so you can vibe while observing traffic on Menchaca – just what every woman dreams of! Carver Museum: Two Births and the Afterlife
You think it’s easy, being somebody’s mother? You think giving birth to another human being doesn’t put your own humanity and purpose under some fierce self-scrutiny? Milwaukee-based artist Aimée M. Loverboy: Portraits on Vinyl by Rick Fleming
Back in 2020, Rick Fleming helped then-presidential hopeful Joe Biden campaign for the top spot by selling tote bags adorned with the politician’s portrait. Now, the local artist turns his attention to more musical inspirations, from Prince and David Bowie to Björk and Taylor Swift. United by his signature full eyes and round nostrils, Fleming’s homages take a more abstract approach to his subjects’ likeness – though accompanying lyrics, like to Queen’s namesake 1976 classic, give each piece away. Visit Springdale’s SAGE Studio Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to see Fleming’s paintings on vinyl discs – or buy one yourself for $200 a pop. – Carys AndersonThrough March 23. free. -
