Follow the undead! If you’ve been paying attention to season four of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, you’ll have noticed a few Austin landmarks besieged by zombies. Now the Texas Film Commission is making it easier to trace their footsteps, as today they launched the official Fear the Walking Dead film trail.
As producers Ian B. Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss told the Chronicle this week, the show will be returning to the Austin area to shoot the recently-confirmed season 5 (read all about that in this week’s screen’s feature, “The Dead Come to Texas“).
Now the TFC has laid out the path of carnage for the already-screened first half of season four, from the instantly recognizable (Dell Diamond, Volente Beach Resort, the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex) to some out of the way spots that you may want to visit. Day trip to the Cottonwood Inn, everyone?

However, that’s not your only option for tracking down famous filming locations for the big and small screen. The commission also has a cross-state expedition for Texas classics, from El Paso’s San Lizario Gazebo seen in Fandango, to Corpus Christi’s Swantner Park where the young Selena learned to dance. Or you can hit all the familiar (and unfamiliar) locales from the career of Richard Linklater – and yes, there’s a lot of Austin in there, if you don’t feel like driving.
Fear the Walking Dead returns from its mid-season hiatus Aug. 12, 8pm Central.
