Well, LGBTQs reading this: We’ve made it through another week, and we’ll be surviving through this next one too. South by Southwest events both official and unofficial will wrap up this weekend, leaving local clubs, bars, and taco trucks once again free from famous folks distracting me because I can’t remember who they are. Rhett and Link, if you’re also reading this, please know my dad was *very* excited to hear I saw you at Cheer Up Charlies.

On that note, while I was walking to Chups that night I met a few out-of-towners headed next door to Mohawk for similarly South By-adjacent programming. In chatting, they asked me whether there was a lot to do in Austin even after a massive convention like SXSW was over. Apparently it’s a sentiment expressed by some newer citizens that this is a city where there’s nothing to do. Look, maybe I’m biased because my whole job is searching for events, but I find ATX to be a very happening place for the outgoing gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, or plus individual.

Is this truth not so for the casual cis-het reader? I assure you, bored citizens holed up in your luxury apartment called something like The Grackle on Congress or whatever, plenty of these upcoming queer-run events also accept allies in their midst. (Though not all of ’em do, so use your reading comprehension and good judgment.) Hanging out together is how we build community. Come out and join us! Your tip money in the drag queen’s hand spends just the same as ours.
