Hope everyone’s all melted and mobile after last week’s freeze. A lot of not-so-nice ICE business was afoot in our country, and so keeping your heart, mind, and body warm is key to surviving the continued stormy weather – metaphorically and literally speaking. But you’re still here, now, and I’m happy for that, so let’s go through a few q-updates (queer updates). (I can make any word queer, and yes: That’s a threat!).
Many events got rescheduled, which hopefully kept all y’all from slidin’ on those frozen streets. While I don’t have the new dates for every event, here’s the ones I do know: Dykechella’s Bimbo Bash is now happening this Saturday, Jan. 31; while Girls in the Nose still braved temps in the 20s this past Saturday, BookWoman’s 50th anniversary event is being postponed to sometime in early spring; the Iron Bear has set aside their crowns for the Disney princess-themed Club Chub until Feb. 28; and the joint celebration of La Güira de ATX and fundraiser for DJ Chorizo Funk, Joya, is now hitting on Sunday, Feb. 1. Did I miss the new date for your queer happening originally scheduled for this past winter storm weekend? Drop me a line at jscott@austinchronicle.com or on the @qmmunity_ac Insta, and I’ll make sure to update things online.
Art thou feeling a little like a loverboy lately? Channel that energy into Butch Prom’s call for queer masc love letters! The butch, trans masc, and drag king centric event organizers are asking YOU for your odes to the queer masc community ahead of their Valentine’s dating-game-show show, Masc4Match. Submit your gushing thoughts about the boyz (gender neutral) via their Google form (located in the butchprom Insta bio) and you may just see it shared at the Feb. 13-15 event and online. Like all the best love letters, these submissions will be anonymous.
OH and here’s something not so newsy: I hope everyone’s doing okay. I personally felt as though I stumbled into the new year rather than entering it gracefully. That sense has abated the longer January goes on, and to all my readers I wish a similar easing of any self-doubt that may plague you. There’s a lot of fish to fry! But I believe we can fry it.
