Happy 420 weekend and a merry Earth Day to all โ€“ which better be everyone on this planet โ€“ who celebrate. Whether youโ€™re partaking of the devilโ€™s lettuce or helping plant some actual lettuce, thereโ€™s a crisp spring breeze calling outside. Soak it up!

And yet, my indoor-kid ass cannot help but have only movie-related business to address in this weekโ€™s column. Sorry! As much as Iโ€™ve been making myself leave the apartment and see beyond my phone screen, thereโ€™s few places I adore more than a chilly cinema seat. Oh, and if Iโ€™ve had a little nibble of a certain substance during the pre-show? What bliss!

You wonโ€™t need any herbal enhancements to enjoy the queer film selections coming up at next weekโ€™s Indie Meme Film Fest, though. Celebrating South Asian film with a focus on the diaspora for their 35th year, the fest offers three solid queer pictures on its schedule. Short romance โ€œJasmine That Blooms in Autumnโ€ gets its Texas premiere on Sunday, April 26, and follows two women in an elder care facility who fall in love. Also having its Lone Star launch (Wednesday, April 22, ahead of opening night movie Vimukt) is short โ€œHills Donโ€™t Dance Alone,โ€ in which a teen bullied for cross-dressing during a dance performance finds support from the schoolโ€™s vice principal. SXSW special jury prize winner Fucktoys returns to Texas screens on Saturday, April 25, with writer/director/actor Annapurna Sriram spilling on her surreal sex-worker comedy feature in a live Q&A. Nab individual tickets to screenings if youโ€™re interested, or grab a badge and enjoy Indie Memeโ€™s full fest lineup.

If you liked the first film back in 2006, youโ€™re probably keeping tabs on The Devil Wears Prada sequel. Perhaps youโ€™ve already heard, then, that queer film fest aGLIFF and the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce have partnered on a runway-inspired red-carpet screening of TDWP 2. Thereโ€™ll be a โ€œRed Carpetโ€ experience, photo moments, a student designer showcase, and curated goodie bags along with plenty of fun from hosts Nadine Hughes and Mars. Grab your tix for the advance screening on Thursday, April 30, for $25 on the austinlgbtchamber.com event page.

Okay: This item is not, strictly speaking, queer. But I do know quite a few of you have a short flick in the can thatโ€™s perfect for the Gallery ATX Film Festโ€™s upcoming Nostalgia theme. The women-led nonprofit is asking for short films that โ€œexplore memory, identity, and the moments that stay with us โ€“ whether real, rewritten, or imaginedโ€ in narrative, documentary, experimental, and hybrid formats. Three submissions max, and your due dateโ€™s this Sunday, April 19. Selected shorts will screen at Hyperreal Film Club on May 3, with a chance to win audience choice awards as well as local-business-provided prizes. Submit via the Google form linked in their Insta bio (@thegalleryatx).

Stay safe, stay silly, and make sure to check the dosage before ingesting any special treats this weekend.
