Dear Chronicle staff, family, friends, and readers,

On Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 29, I went in for blood tests at the Austin Regional Clinic Far West. They immediately sent me to Seton Hospital, where I coded blue that evening. It turns out that I had massive heart failure. I’ll be back at my desk at the Chronicle by the new year. Please do not try to get in touch with me at the hospital or my home before then.

The most important thing I want to say is thank you and to offer my deepest love to the people I’m related to, to the people I interact with regularly, to the people I play with, and to the people I work for as I have for the last three decades: the readers of The Austin Chronicle. Thank you for your love and support.

A special thanks to my caregivers at Austin Regional Clinic and Seton Hospital who have put up with me the past few weeks.
