The June 19 story “Breaking the Chains” originally reported, in error, that the Mexican government promised Moses Austin land grants to encourage settlement in Texas. In fact, it was the Spanish government that delivered this promise. And while Moses Austin planned to create a colony in Texas, he died before fully carrying out the mission. Additionally, Texas does not immediately border Central America.
