In the Nov. 21 edition of the Chronicle, Mr. Smarty Pants Knows said that the Hawaiian alphabet has 12 letters. In fact, it has 12 letters from the Latin alphabet, plus a 13th “letter” called “‘okina” that is written with an apostrophe (‘). Mr. Smarty Pants wishes to say he is sorry, but since there is apparently no word in Hawaiian for sorry, he will have to say, “e kala mai i a’u,” which translates to “please forgive me.”

In the Chronicle‘s City Council endorsements (published Nov. 28 and online), due to errors in editing, mistakes were introduced into the District 10 endorsement: Specifically, Sheri Gallo is not a legislative aide, nor has she signed the local “tax-cut pledge.” We’ve corrected the endorsement accordingly, and apologize to Gallo and our readers for the errors.

In “The Lege Stirs Into Action” (Nov. 21): As currently drafted, Senate Bill 119 by Sen. Donna Campbell will require San Antonio’s VIA Metropolitan Transit, not Capital Metro, to have an elected board. However, Cap Metro spokesman John Julitz noted, “These things can change over the course of a session.”
