The last surviving border marker for the Republic of Texas is 10 miles southeast of Deadwood, Texas, on FM 31. Dating back to 1840, the granite marker is a nine-inch square and sticks up about four feet from the ground. One side is engraved with “Merid. Boundary, Established A.D., 1840,” one is engraved with “U.S.” and one is engraved with “R.T.” for Republic of Texas.
