In 1944, a Scottish court convicted Helen Duncan of pretending to use witchcraft, even though the crime of being a witch was abolished by the 1735 Witchcraft Act. Duncan served nine months in jail. Petitioners with the Scottish Parliament are trying to have her pardoned.
