THINK GLOBAL: ACT LOCO Your friendly neighborhood Gay Place heartily endorses that sentiment – especially with the way the world is spinning dizzily these days. GP also heartily endorses these items for your to-do list. Here are a few “put it on your radars” for this week: First, the GP’s own yours truly, Kate X, will be speaking at this weekend’s Sierra Club action Hands Across the Sand (www.handsacrossthesand.org) at Auditorium Shores. The action is part of an international call to oppose offshore oil drilling. My trip last weekend to Grand Isle, La., was equal parts infuriation and frustration, just like the Gulf crisis that is destroying its way of life. I’ll speak briefly about the trip and what I saw. (See Saturday and austinchronicle.com/gayplaceblog.)
SFGate’s blog has a great piece in this week, “Proposition 8: A Straight Woman’s Perspective.” The questions posed by author Susan Davis are compelling and succinct. I know it’s a long URL, but it’s worth the type-in for the read: www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/inalameda/detail?&entry_id=66252. Locally, our own Equality Across America – Texas (www.eaatexas.org) has launched planning meetings to address the verdict once it comes down in the California Prop. 8 trial. The decision is still pending, but as soon as that sucker hits the waves, local EAAs across the country will mobilize their community bodies in concurrent rallies. Get over to the website and sign up. You’ll be on a list to get instant notification to heed the rally cry. (See www.eaatexas.org.)
