AN ODE TO GAY PAUL GETTY Please, friends, a moment of silence and meditation to honor the passing of a fallen colleague. By “passing,” we mean passing through Austin en route to San Francisco. And by “fallen colleague,” we mean Kate Getty has fallen in love … well, yes, of course she has, but also with the city of San Francisco and so is on her way west. As you may or may not know, Getty was co-columnist and co-conspirator of Gay Place for well on four years. Much of her very distinct voice lingers today in each tender, delicate fold of our jolly gay listings. We could spend these precious column inches recounting our meeting (Spike Gillespie referred the little badass to us), reminiscing about the good times (there exists photographic evidence) and the bad (not as many as we thought while we were in the middle of them), but instead, we’d simply like to pimp her upcoming Saturday yard sale and let this picture stand as tribute and testimonial. Goddessspeed, sweet freak. Frisco has nooooo idea what it’s in for. (See Saturday.)
