CHEER UP! Eastside trailer Oz Cheer Up Charlie’s is moving on up into new digs this week (an actual building, the old Ms. Bea’s) and heralding what we hope is a new twist on both the East Sixth hipster vortex as well as LGBTQ, etc., options beyond saddling on up to the bar to kill off a few brain cells. For those familiar with Cheer Up Charlie’s trailer incarnation, just up the road a piece from this new home, the notion of regular hours and dependable sating of vegan cravings are definite pluses (vegan chocolaaaaaaaaate). Another plus is that Ben Aqua (Assacre, MenRG, MVSCLEZ) will be handling promotions and booking and used the phrase “rad/gay” in a press release to me. Cheer Up Charlie’s will be open Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-2am, and the grand opening party, featuring DJ sets by MenRG and Faith Gay, happens this Friday.
(See Friday.)

NO FOOLIN’! While you await above’s vaunted grand opening, you may wallow in a well of womanly goodness (come on, boys, let’s process) at tonight’s (Thursday, April 1) Feminesto! A Night of Soul Poetry, Soul Music, and Soul Food, a “Gay Place”-presented fete featuring three of my favorite laaaay-deez: Abe Louise Young, whose new work Ammonite we celebrate and hear readings from tonight; Lisa Marshall, whose saucy soul band shall shake shingles at the afterdance; and Baby Girl, mostess hostess of TC’s Lounge, where all this folderol shall manifest – or more specifically, feminest. (See Thursday, 4/1.)
