TWO NICE MANGOES The work of two Austin lesbian artists will be honored in two separate events this weekend. Their lives and work are for the most part mutually exclusive, but their individual impacts on this town earn them hallowed seats in the hall of giants. Saturday afternoon, Austin will gather to commemorate the life of dear friend of “Gay Place” and former Austin Free-Net Executive Director Ana Sisnett, who passed away last week after a three-year battle with cancer. Her official executive director title was but one of many for the activist, artist, author, and all-around sassy mama. The vacancy she leaves is vast, and the mangoes she leaves untouched, plentiful. Come celebrate the goodness this woman brought to all of our lives. (See “Remembering Ana Sisnett,” Screens, for more.) On Sunday evening, former Two Nice Girls founding member Laurie Freelove shall be honored and supported in her struggle with health issues. Family, friends, the Austin music community, and the whole town, it seems, will descend upon Antone’s, and some musical careers may even be resurrected at this all-star benefit in conjunction with the Austin Art and Music Partnership. (See Music Listings for details.) See Saturday and Sunday Listings for more.
