HOLIDAY ANGELS To some, I am in the closet. The karaoke closet. Yes, I am a KJ: I am what I play. Last week, I KJ’d the newspaper’s holiday party, and I must say, this year’s random lineup was stunning. From Community Listings’ James Renovitch‘s soul-stirring “Greatest Love of All” to Gay Place blogger Andy Campbell‘s dirty dirty “Camel Toe,” all culminating into the hip-roaring finale featuring the most stunning Simone Riviera and Saffire Trinity ripping “Lady Marmalade” a new one. OMG: Why don’t they sing all the time? Speaking of Simone and Saffire, watch for them at La Cage’s dinner theatre (see Listings). Yeah, karaoke’s on the brain, as this week I reviewed a new book about the phenomenon in our books section (see “Don’t Stop Believin’: How Karaoke Conquered the World and Changed My Life“), and I’ve been in talks with some folks regarding resurrecting a certain event that I used to host. For now, it’s just gossip and words flickering on a portable TV screen. More details to come. In the meanwhile, check the Gay Place Blog. Oh, and happiest of holiday seasons to you, dear Gay Placers!
