PROP. 8 = HATE It’s safe to say: 1, 2, 8, and 102 are not the LGBT community’s lucky numbers right about now. Arkansas’ Proposed Initiative Act No. 1, to ban single folks and gay folks from adopting or fostering kids, passed. Prop. 2 in Florida, Prop. 8 in California, and Prop. 102 in Arizona all ban gay marriage, and all passed. Seems we fell down on the job and let a lot of misinformation and outright lies speak louder than our love. Proponents of the preposterous propositions evangelized way beyond their states. So much so that even some big Austin money made its way to fund hate. It’s time to wake up our potential and answer these attacks once and for all. Feel the ground moving? Feel the shift in the winds? Let’s make it ring from the tabernacles of Salt Lake to the riches of the Vatican and call on the better, bigger, brighter angels within all of us who truly believe in liberty and justice for all. Locally, folks are joining a national protest this Sat., Nov. 15, 12:30pm at Austin City Hall that is part of a groundswell sparked by Join the Impact (www.jointheimpact.com). Won’t you join us?
