Culinaria showcases the diversity and creativity of food and beverages in San Antonio. Held on the third week of May, the fun and excitement builds to a weekend crescendo.

First among the not-to-be-missed events is the Food Truck Event on Thurs­day evening, May 14, in the parking lot of the H-E-B at Alon Market. Up until a few years ago, San Antonians called these taco trucks. The variety and quality of the four-wheeled kitchens has blossomed, and the city enthusiastically supports the concept. Look for the duck-fat-fried potatoes at Say She Ate and the green chile mac and cheese at Bite Street Bistro. At the Slider Provider truck, try the Goobster or Chuck Norris miniature sandwiches.

Of the dozen food events during Culinaria, the Best of Mexico on Friday, May 15, really shines. The event blocks off part of the Shops at La Cantera mall for a street festival of food from the finest local and visiting chefs. You’ll easily eat and drink the price of admission in bite-size portions.

The Burgers & Beer event at the Pearl on Sunday, May 17, is also a must. The price of admission gets you all the samples you can eat and drink. Local chefs and brewers try to outdo each other with their creations, and your taste buds are the winner.
