Wolfmueller’s Books in Kerrville stocks two floors of new, used, and rare books. Along with hard-to-find, recently published regional titles, they also carry a large selection of first editions.

Sandy and Jon Wolfmueller began in the book business more than 20 years ago in the historic Pampell building at the corner of TX 16 and Water Street. For years the bookstore was only slightly less famous than the antique soda fountain in the former drug store. The combination became a tourist destination overlooking the Guadalupe River.

The current store is filled to the rafters and spilling into the basement with books for the serious bibliophile as well as the casual reader. The Wolfmuellers offer friendly guidance through the maze of racks and then let the customers browse at their leisure.

The collection specializes in new and used Texana titles. What is impressive is the number of copies they have of signed and unsigned first editions by local-favorite authors like J. Frank Dobie, John Graves, and Larry McMurtry. This is the place to get that gift for the person who has everything except a 1940 autographed copy of a classic.

Wolfmueller’s Books is located at 229 Earl Garrett, 830/257-7323, and www.wolfmuellersbooks.com. Their neighbors in the historic district include the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center, Shreiner Mansion Museum, and Francisco’s Restaurant, a light alternative to the usual Mexican food.
