DRIVE-BY THOUGHTS An invitation for an event at the Seaholm Power Plant stated that high heels were prohibited in the historic building. With that in mind, I could not possibly attend. Not that I was planning on wearing them it’s just that I totally saw myself as Snow White surrounded by dwarves and just couldn’t face the prospect of seeing all my girlfriends looking so diminutive. But I do get mistaken for Snow White fairly regularly must be my natural beauty and kindness I laughed hard at the name of the new book about stay-at-home-moms called The Feminine Mistake. Clever title. Personally, I’d love to be a stay-at-home-mom as long as it didn’t involve children.

BOLDFACE Actor Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder), currently in Austin filming Fireflies in the Garden with Julia Roberts, went to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to pick up his new girlfriend, the ubiquitous serial-dater, Scarlett Johansson. We won’t use the phrase “dry-humping,” but reports say the pair steamily made out for 10 minutes before they collected his luggage and drove off. Scarlett (she recently broke up with Josh Hartnett, her co-star in the abysmal Black Dahlia) and Ryan (he dumped fellow-Canadian girlfriend Alanis Morissette in February) were spotted together on Tuesday, shopping hand-in-hand on our chic SoCo Strip Golden GirlRue McClanahan graced the dais at Red, Hot and Soul, the fabulous fundraiser for Zach Scott (the band Skyrocket, starring Trish Murphy and Johnny Goudie, rocked the crowd’s socks off). She was in town for an onstage conversation with Zach’s Artistic Director Dave Steakley, and to sign copies of her book, My First Five Husbands And the Ones Who Got Away Loved the Umlauf Sculpture Garden Party. As usual. So elegant and charming. Visited with the indomitable Liz Carpenter, among so many other friends The dreamy Jake Gyllenhaal dined with friends at Chuy’s on Thursday night, genially ignoring the gawking of fellow diners (and their cell-phone cameras). I don’t know why he hasn’t returned my calls.
