Support Group Begins Monday, Jan. 3
AIDS Services of Austin is pleased to offer STRAIGHT TALK, a six-week support group for heterosexual men and women living with HIV or AIDS. The group begins January 26 on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Men and women living with HIV/AIDS can experience feelings of isolation, fear, grief, anger, hopelessness, and other emotions. STRAIGHT TALK offers a safe environment to exchange emotional support, share common experiences, and make new friends. If you are newly diagnosed and confused about T-counts, viral loads, medications, and the new treatments, the group can offer you information and support. The group discussion may include topics such as, “How has HIV changed what matters in my life?” “How do I make sense out of having HIV?” or “What about getting married or having children?”
Former group members have stated, “I could not have believed that such a diverse group could come together and share so much.” Another member shared her relief that she finally was able to be with other men and women who were HIV-positive. Bonding with like-minded people around shared issues of commonality creates a community of belonging and solidarity.
STRAIGHT TALK is sensitive to recovery. Attending the weekly sessions under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol is not permitted. Your cooperation is appreciated.
