Drop-in Volunteers at ASA
AIDS Services of Austin relies on volunteers to complete its mission.
Over 800 volunteers are utilized throughout the year to provide practical and
emotional support to clients, office support to staff, educational outreach to
the community, to staff the food pantry, and hundreds of other various tasks.
The months prior to the annual pledge walk are the busiest and the need for
volunteers increases tremendously.
From All Walks of Life , Sunday October 22, is the biggest fundraiser
of the year, bringing in over $300,000. The Spokesperson this year is former
Houston Oiler and UT football star Earl Campbell. This event combines thousands
of walkers and great entertainment to create a fun day in the park.
The Walk is preceded by Dining for Life, on Monday, September 25, which
involves over 100 restaurants donating a percentage of their proceeds of that
day’s business. Both events are essential to enable ASA to provide quality care
to clients and education to the community. Neither event would be possible
without volunteers.
The best way to become an “instant” volunteer is to visit during the volunteer
drop-in times held here at ASA Thursdays 6-9pm, and Tuesday and Thursday
9am-1pm. We will be working diligently to complete the various bulk mailings
and other preperations before the big events. Come alone or bring a group of
friends and help make a difference. Call the Volunteer Services office at
406-6150 to get more info on volunteer drop-in times or any of the other many
volunteer opportunities offered by ASA.
