HIV/AIDS Resource Center
The information on HIV medications is constantly changing. More people
of color and lower incomes are becoming infected with the virus. Research does
not stay constant and the need for knowledge for the infected individual is
great. We live in a time when individuals choose to manage their own disease.
AIDS Services of Austin has created a resource center that is available to the
general public. Books cannot be checked out from the center, but they are at
hand for in-house reading. The Resource Center is new and still in the process
of developing its collection. There are over 100 books on HIV/AIDS available:
everything from the history of the epidemic to a manual for caregivers.
Periodicals that provide current up-to-date information on the latest drug
therapies and treatments for opportunistic infections are also available. In
the near future, the center hopes to have an upgraded computer to search the
Internet for HIV/AIDS information.
Now that the academic year has started, many students may wish to use the
Center for research for their papers. Current statistics are common requests
from the student population. The center has access to local, state, and
national statistics.
The Resource Center is connected with the Information Phone Line which
provides general information to the public on transmission of the virus,
testing sites, warning signs, etc. If you wish to educate yourself on HIV or
get more information about the Resource Center, please call 458-AIDS.
