Each year, thoughtful people all over the world observe a day of awareness, caring, and remembrance of AIDS on Dec. 1. This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS” to reflect the increasing, disproportionate impact that the epidemic is having on that segment of the globe’s population.
Interfaith Care Alliance will hold its seventh Service of Remembrance Hope on Dec. 1 at Unity Center, 9600 Dessau Rd.., beginning at 7pm. The service including participants from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, and Baha’i faiths will feature live music, prayer, and a program by Women Rising, Central Texas’ project for women with HIV/AIDS. Memorial quilts will be displayed in remembrance of those who have died of AIDS.
At a related event, Interfaith Care Alliance will dedicate at their office a ‘Peace Pole’ on Monday, Nov. 29, at noon. The standard is inscribed, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” in English, Spanish, Hebrew, and Arabic. A light lunch will follow; RSVP requested (459-5883 or e-mail meg@interfaithcarealliance.org). ICA is at 7215 Cameron, a half-block north of St. Johns.
