Hairstyling Challenge Benefits Project Transitions on April 14
On Sunday evening, April 14, Aziz Day Spa & Salon and Element Nightclub will host the Style Cup hair fashion competition as a benefit for Project Transitions, which provides hospice, housing and supportive care for people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas.
The Aziz Dream Team is a group of stylists committed to raising money for local charities. The Style Cup is a runway-style hair fashion show featuring some of Austin’s top salons, including Avant, Aziz, Catena’s, Hair It Is, Innu, Salon 505, and Topaz. Competition covers four categories — Day Fun, Warm Evening, Spring Bride and Fantasy — with models, choreography, and costume design. A celebrity panel — Mega 93.3FM’s Miss Kitty, Chronicle Fashion Editor Stephen MacMillan Moser, and Channel 8 News Anchor Denice Menard — will award trophies.
The evening also includes bellydancing performances by A Dance Ensemble by Zein A-Jundi, a silent auction, fabulous door prizes, and DJ-pumped dancing. General admission is $15, while a $30 VIP admission includes corsage, champagne, and hors d’oeuvres. All proceeds will benefit Project Transitions.
Since 1989, Project Transitions has been providing compassionate end-of-life care for people with AIDS at Doug’s House, a comfortable residential hospice facility. In 1995, they opened Roosevelt Gardens, a supportive housing apartment complex, followed in 1998 by Highland Terrace, which offers affordable independent-living apartments. PT is one of Austin’s true grassroots jewels.
The Style Cup benefit will be at 9pm on Sunday, April 14, at Element Nightclub, 301 W. Fifth at Lavaca. For information, call 480-9888.
