I’m sure you’ve heard the big stink about that cartoon in the student paper at Notre Dame last week. Really, really ugly – you’ve probably seen it; the queer blogosphere has been all over it, so I won’t make you look at it again – but here’s the story in case you missed it.

Andrew Sullivan (rightly, I think) connects the incident to the Pope’s incessant hate speech about homos. Joe.My.God and his commenters are predictably hating on the Catholics. They seem to enjoy that sort of thing. The poor, hapless editor who was responsible for the cartoon being published has resigned, and the cartoonists – who seem genuinely sorry and absolutely clueless – have apologized. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming that it’s not so much hate as just a really, really badly calibrated joke.

Anyway, since many of us in the LGBT community tend to get all absolutist when stuff like this happens (I’m never ever going to South Bend, Indiana again, as long as I live!), here’s a clip of Ok Go, featuring the Notre Dame marching band, which doesn’t exactly make up for the hurt, but it sure is great. Is there anything better than a marching band??
