Hey Austin, meet Allyson Mays, our local organizer for this weekend’s protest at city hall. Inspired by the inspired, Texas college student Allyson is jumping head first into the protest fray. We asked her to send along a short profile, so Austin folks could put a face to the local manifestation of an exploding international movement. And, ladies, she’s single.

I came across Join the Impact while reading perezhilton.com. After noticing that there wasn’t an organizer signed up for the Austin event, I jumped at the chance. I love to plan and make lists. I am a single 22-yr-old lesbian. I’m a junior in Marketing at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and a member of our Gay Straight Alliance. I am a nanny for a great family since last summer. I came out this summer to my parents, who are still having trouble adjusting, but are fabulous people. My younger sister & brother (21 & 17) have been super supportive. I live with 6 roommates-a girl and 2 boys, my dog, my cat and my roommate’s dog. It’s a full house, for sure! I was a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past 3 years until my Little Brother moved away. Going to be “matched” again soon. I consider myself a “light greenie,” or a broke environmentalist. I’m a Democrat (if that wasn’t evident) and I’m just trying to do what I can to make the world a better place for my future children.

If you see Allyson at the rally, tell her thanks for stepping up!
