Lots of big names in indie rock return this week with new material. Let’s get to it!
PJ Harvey let us have a first taste of her new album, Let England Shake this week. “Written on the Forehead” doesn’t sound like a typical PJ Harvey track would, with a fragile, Fever Ray-meets-Cocorosie vocal turn and vibe.
Glitoris-approved discohouse stars Hercules + Love Affair just released the first track to their upcoming LP, Blue Songs, entitled “My House.” At first listen, it’s an ok track, good to dance to, and fan-turned-singer Shaun Wright has a decent voice, but he just makes you wish Antony were lurking somewhere in the mix. Further listening needed. Check it out at Soundcloud.
David Lynch put out a random single out this week entitled “Good Day Today,” and it’s pretty sweet! It sounds totally Lynchian, with a creepy kind of like Crystal Castles-meets-Twin Peaks sound. Check it out at Soundcloud.
Iron + Wine just released their first official single off their upcoming album, Kiss Each Other Clean, due out January 25. This darker track is a long way from his simple hushed folk days.
Finally, one of my new favorite bands, Memoryhouse has just released a new video for their track “Heirloom,” the B-side to their new Caregiver single. You might remember me praising them in this previous post.
