Rabble rabble rabble! Maine! Rabble rabble rabble! California! Rabble rabble rabble! Marriage! Join the Impact – Austin, the folks who represented our fair city at last month’s National Equality March will respond to Maine’s rejection of gay marriage tomorrow on the steps of city hall.
JtI-A, a group that is already growing steadily will plant its feet firmly and protest allowing votes on civil rights for fellow American citizens. According to the group’s leader and UT prof Dana Cloud:
“Never in the history of the U.S. has a civil rights victory happened on a state-by-state basis. Not suffrage, not abolition, not voting rights, not desegregation. All of these required federal intervention. People should not be voting on other peoples’ rights. And leaving the question of rights to the states has long been a strategy to preserve rather than remedy injustice.”
