It is time for that clusterfuck we love to call SXSW. From my perch in some corporate kiosk I can see everyone dressed to impressed and energetic. I think I just got cruised… Awww. The cuteness doesn’t stop for the next week. Here’s my schedule for the next couple days – come out and join me, say hey, and we’ll queer the shit out of SXSW.
Friday (That’s Today!!):
7PM: Lipstick Pages Spring Fling, Beauty Bar (617 E. 7th). Those Lipstick Lay-days, fabulous online zine-ers, release a publication and throw a 7th anniversary party! No credentials required, whaaaaaa?!?
11:15PM: Christeene “Fix My Dick” SXSW Video Premiere, Alamo Ritz 2 (320 E. 6th). The Three Dollar Cinema queers (headed by Paul Soileau and PJ Raval) are showing this nasty-as-hell music video. SXSW will get radically queer-er for a few hot minutes.
12:00AM: Liza-Palooza, Chain Drive (504 Willow Street). Chain Drive is the place where leather & bear-lovin’ “Friends of Dorothy” go to have a beer with a bud or cruise for a hot trick. Tonight: it’s all Liza, all the time. Maybe we need a new euphamism, “Friend-of-Dorothy’s-Daughter” will do nicely.
Saturday
2PM-11PM: SXS&M, Chain Drive (504 Willow Street). Chain Drive is the best place for new queer progressive sounds…
2:45 to 3:15 pm – Book of Shadows
3:30 to 4 pm – Chris Petkus
4:15 to 4:45 pm -Tom Benton
5 to 5:30 pm – Ichi Ni San Shi
5:45 to 6:15 pm – Muzak John
6:30 to 7 pm – Matt LaComette
7:15 to 7:45 pm – Mystery Band
8 to 8:30 pm – Fm Campers
8:45 to 9:15 pm – Telepathic Friend
9:30 to 10 pm – Florene
3:30PM-4PM: Engaging the Queer Community Panel, 9ABC Austin Convention Center. You guys! This is a SXSW first, a panel dedicated solely to the needs of our queer communities. This is not to be missed.
10PM: Girls will be Boyz CD release party, Rusty Spurs (7th and Red River). Those lovable lezzies are doing it again: releasing music, spreading joy and breaking my heart (do you need a tamborine player?!?!).
2AM: Daylight Savings time. Set the clock ahead one hour.
Sunday:
4:10PM: Totally Gay for the Web with
the INIMITABLE Heather Gold, 9ABC Austin Convention Center. She speaks! And says uh-maze-eeng things!
5:00PM: Hubble 3D, Bob Bullock History Museum IMAX. I know it’s not “gay” but it will be STUNNING, dear.
9:OOPM: Queer Blogger Tweet Up. Oilcan Harry’s (211 W. 4th). Replacing “meet up” with “tweet up” makes me vom-vom a little in my mouth – but I will be there just long enough to down two dirty martini’s and stumble over to Bear Nation.
9:30PM: Bear Nation premieres to the WORLD, G-Tech Theater at the Austin Convention Center. If you loved Small Town Gay Bar, then you will love Malcom Ingram, whose bio tells us that he enjoys, “deep kissing, BBQ, beers, rainbows, and petty theft.” Welcome to Austin, Malcolm, you might not ever make it out. See Messer’s TIGHT interview with this loveable man.
11:45PM: Super-Secret-No-One-Knows-What-Will-Be-Shown-Movie, Alamo South Lamar 2. What will be shown? I don’t KNOW! Perhaps it will be a queer surprise.
As per usual, look for fascinating interviews with honorific queers throughout the conference. Video blogs and those of the textual persuasion to come! XOXOXO
