Hot Summer Nights w/ Kathryn Legendre, Texas String Assembly, Gus Clark (9:00) [inside]

If her step-in set at this spring’s Two Step Inn is any indication, Kathryn Legendre’s ready to launch from local honky tonks to bigger stages. Since her debut Old Soul a decade ago, the ATX songwriter has delivered the kind of hook-laden tunes and grounded lyrics that led female artists to top the Nineties country charts, with her latest singles even adding a soulful touch. The wild bluegrass of septet Texas String Assembly picks apart last year’s raucous, jamming debut LP DOGGABONE, while Seattle transplant Gus Clark brings his sweet throwback honky-tonking and blues tenor to open.

Lizzie, the Musical

That legendary company called Doctuh Mistuh Productions returns to Austin after a five-year hiatus to present this rock musical adaption of the grisly Borden Family murders in 1893 and the subsequent trial of Lizzie Borden. The show – which premiered in NYC in 2009 and is written by Steven Cheslik-deMeyer, Tim Maner, and Alan Steven Hewitt – is directed here by the irrepressible Michael McKelvey, with musical direction by Ellie Jarrett Shattles. Texas Punk Story Hour w/ Pat Blashill

Pat Blashill compiled a vivid visual history of Austin punk with 2020 hardcover Texas Is the Reason, stuffed with striking black-and-white portraits and wild live shots of acts like Scratch Acid, the Dicks, Butthole Surfers, and Daniel Johnston. Now the photographer and writer preps his next book: an oral history of Texas punk. Synchronously, he and Big Boys bassist Chris Gates are hosting a story hour (free, 7-10pm) with confirmed speakers including Tim Mateer (Meat Joy), Steve Marsh (Terminal Mind), Jesse Sublett (Skunks/Violators) and Rob Buford (Crotch Rot). Scene survivors with acerbic anecdotes can sign up to regale to the room – hit [email protected].
