On Friday, Jan. 28, former Chronicle Books Editor Clay Smith accepted the Texas Book Festival’s offer to succeed Edward Nawotka as program manager. His reign will begin on Monday, Feb. 7. When asked if he was excited about his new position, Smith – who has accomplished quite a lot since he left the Chronicle in 2002, including learning Spanish, living and working among the Manhattan literati, and serving as a reporting fellow at The Dallas Observer – said “yes.” Look for Smith’s vision and mission for the TBF – an honest-to-god Chronicle exclusive – in next week’s edition.
