Why go to just to one or two art openings when you can go to at least four of them in the same place this Friday night?

And the answer is: Flatbed Press World Headquarters, that near-labyrinthine warren of visual artistry and sophisticated printing right there on East MLK, where Gallery Shoal Creek is celebrating 50 years of existence … where Photo Méthode Gallery is marking its two-year existence … where Camiba Art is partying it up with a Grand Opening … and where Flatbed itself is championing its “Memento” exhibition of monotypes and monoprints. We imagine it’s going to be a big, bustling, fine-art fandango sort of deal this Friday – just the thing to start a delightfully encultured weekend off right.
And the second of two questions is: Why stop there, when you can also attend a reception for the incredible works of Shawn Smith at grayDUCK Gallery just a little ways south? It took curator Jill Schroeder almost two years of wrangling to get this show confirmed, she recently told us, and you can see for yourself how worthwhile that effort was. (Hint: Very worthwhile.) And this grayDUCK reception goes until 10pm Friday night, so you’ll have plenty of time post-Flatbed to partake of its elegance.
Oh, hey – Bonus Question: Since you’ll be in the grayDUCK neighborhood already, smart citizen, how could you not stop for a drink or more at Launderette, that superlative eatery that recently won “Best New Restaurant” in the Chronicle’s Best of Austin Readers’ Poll?
OK, maybe that’s a rhetorical bonus question?
