Caswell Cabaret
What do you do when you have Caswell House for a night and no one to wed? Youcall that mage of musical theatre Joe York and ask him if he wants to put on a
cabaret. That’s what Steven Franden did. Franden obtained the free evening in a
silent auction and promptly asked York if he’d fill it with a special
performance. York agreed, on the condition that the event be a benefit. And so
it is, for Christopher House. York will sing show music and standards,
accompanied by the classy Allen Robertson on piano and Brad Shelton on bass. It
happens Friday, June 28, 7:30pm. Tickets: $30. Call 499-TIXS.
The Aliens Are Coming!
No doubt you’ve heard that on July 4, our planet will be overrun byextraterrestrials in the summer flick, Independence Day. Well, those evil ETs
are johnny-come-latelys in the invasion game. The Zygonians invade Terra this
week, in the radio saga The Interplanetary Nemesis, by Salvage Vanguard
Theater. SVT, known for staging edgy new work, goes retro with this tale of a
plucky Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who’s tipped off to an alien invasion
and has 10 15-minute episodes to stop it. It’s Thirties-era fun, with jazzy
slang, cliffhangers, and sound effects, and KVRX and KOOP are broadcasting it
this summer: Mondays and Wednesdays, 7pm, on KVRX; KOOP times TBA. Call
912-0331 for info.
