Like the phoenix of old, the Vin Gallery has emerged from the flames reborn – or maybe that should be just plain born without the “re” as the art space never made its official debut, the recent fire in the Guadalupe Arts Center having sent that plan quite literally up in smoke just a day before the gallery’s scheduled opening. Well, the point is the fire has not killed the gallery. Director Melissa Ladd – one of the many GAC folks who has soldiered heroically through this disaster – reports that the gallery will finally open this weekend, albeit in temporary quarters, at Gallery Shoal Creek, 1500 W. 34th, the same venue which is providing temporary office space for GAC owner Kevin J. Barry as he sorts out the aftermath of the fire and maps out the future of the center. The Vin Gallery sign, which was to adorn the front of the Guadalupe Arts Center, will now be installed outside the Gallery Shoal Creek on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 1pm. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 19, Vin Gallery will open with a smaller version of “Just a Taste,” the exhibition which was to have opened the space in the GAC. Ladd hopes to hang “at least one piece by each of the artists we will be representing.” Regular operating hours for the gallery will be Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-6pm.
